Betting Alerts: Lions Go From Dog to Favorite vs. Washington, Steelers Likely Lost Watt

There was some interesting line movements to begin Week 2 of the NFL (2022) following a few surprises that witnessed some Super Bowl favorites get crushed.

The Packers, reigning Super Bowl champion Rams and San Francisco 49ers each lost their respective games in Week 1.  Last season's Super Bowl losing Cincinnati Bengals also lost in OT to Pittsburgh.

A few of the noticable odds shifts within the first 24 hours ahead of Week 2 play appear below.

Lions Go From Dog to Favorite vs. Commanders

PointsBet opened the Eagles-Commanders Week 2 game with Detroit as a home dog and that shifted to Detroit -2 by late Sunday evening.

Sun, Sep 11 7:47 PM ET (ET)

Commanders +2.0 -107

Lions -2.0 -107

Sat, Sep 10 5:47 PM ET (ET)

Commanders -1.0 -107

Lions +1.0 -107

The Lions lost at home to Philadelphia in Week 1, 35-38.

As a home underdog since 2017, Detroit is 7-24 Straight Up for a dismal 22.6% win rate.  They are 11-7 SU as a favorite over that time.

As an away dog, Washington is 10-23 Straight Up (30.3%) over that same period.

None of these stats necessarily stand out enough to pull the trigger on a moneyline play.

Washington beat Jacksonville 28-22 in Week 2.

The win happened after Carson Wentz went to the sideline having thrown interceptions on consecutive plays.

He was able to turn things around however.

“You make a couple bad plays, it’s time to go fix it,” Wentz said. “It’s a tough stretch there to bounce back from, but guys did a good job. Everybody was rallying around each other, and obviously we got it done.”

The Sagarin numbers are yet to be updated to reflect new ratings coming into Week 2, but based on the season opener numbers we get Commanders 0.77, which is about a point below the Monday morning line.

Patriots vs. Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a wild game Sunday, one of the best actually.

PointsBet opened the Steelers early at +5 against the Patriots at home just prior to 8 pm ET. That number immediately shot down to +1.5 and +1.  Most other books were holding at that spot Monday morning.

Despite the win, Pittsburgh suffered big losses among its squad.

The Steelers believe their star pass-rusher and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt may have suffered a torn pectoral during the 23-20 victory in Cincinnati.

Both Watt and running back Najee Harris (foot) exited with injuries in the fourth quarter and were ruled out.

"Having TJ out there definitely benefits us. He's a leader. He's the Defensive Player of the Year," teammate Cameron Heyward said. "However long it takes, other guys gotta step up. Alex (Highsmith) stepped up pretty good today. Malik (Reed) and Jamir (Jones) are coming along. We had to do some different stuff out there, but we rally around him. And when he gets back, we'll be ready."
