It’s that time of year again, when golfers travel to the golf mecca, Augusta National, as they attempt to have their name etched into history and join a small fraternity of players to wear a green jacket by winning The Masters. One of the most heralded sports events begins this weekend as 97 players take on the grueling par-72, 7,435-yard course which has seen a playoff in three of the past five events. Last year was one of those playoff tournaments, as Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera played two sudden-death holes, with Scott coming away victorious with a second-hole birdie. Besides Scott, there will be 18 other players in the field that are past Masters champions. Let’s take a look at a few players who have the best chance to overcome the difficulties of Amen Corner and the incredible field to join golf lore this weekend.

Golfers to Watch

Matt Kuchar (15/1): Kuchar has held the lead at some point in each of his past two tournaments, placing second and fourth, respectively, while losing in a playoff to Matt Jones at the Houston Open this past weekend. He has had past success playing in big events with a win in The Players Championship and WGC-Accenture Match Play in 2013. Kuchar has certainly been in the running in Augusta over the past years as well, finishing eighth in 2013 and third in 2012, and should be poised to make another run come Sunday.

Keegan Bradley (35/1): Bradley is one of three golfers to win in his major debut when he took down the PGA Championship field back in 2011. Since then, he has also won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but has failed to place better than 27^th at The Masters. Bradley had a runner-up performance just a few weeks ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and is long off the tee (300.6 yards per, 18^th on tour), both factors that could help him greatly this weekend.

Harris English (40/1): English is leading the tour by hitting 73.0% of greens in regulation which has led to a solid season where he already has one victory as well as seven other top-15 finishes. This will be his debut at Augusta, but this year has seen plenty of fresh faces topping the leaderboards, and it is likely that the 24-year old will be very competitive for the green jacket.

Hideki Matsuyama (75/1): At just 22 years old, Matsuyama has already placed in the top-10 twice in majors, finishing 10^th in last year’s installment of the U.S. Open and 6^th at the British Open Championship. He will be seeking his first PGA victory with a win at the Masters, but has already proven the ability to be victorious with five career wins on the Japan Golf Tour. Despite his longshot odds, Matsuyama is right on the precipice of becoming a star on the PGA Tour, and a win this weekend will make him a star for life.

Matt Every (100/1): Every has astounded everyone this season with his play after finishing no better than 53^rd in the FedEx Cup rankings over the past four seasons. He has placed in the top-eight in three of the past four tournaments including a big win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which boasted a tough field of competitors. Every will need to continue his strong putting, as he has gained .950 strokes putting (4^th on the tour) this season and averaged 1.716 putts per hole (5^th on the tour), in order to compete with the best in the game this week.
