Former NFL player Julian Edelman says that the first time he met Michael Jordan, the NBA legend - and high stakes gambler - issued an ominous warning.

Appearing on n Tuesday’s episode of Edelman’s Games With Names podcast, Edelman relayed a story to guest comedian, Bert Kreischer.

Edelman was one of the Patriots’ star receivers at the time they played in Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

Days before the game, Edelman took his family to dinner. That’s when he bumped into Jordan and baseball legend Derek Jeter.

The former Yankees baseball star was especially hospitable.

“And I’m super starstruck,” Edelman said, “and I’m about to play in the Super Bowl. I go up — and you could tell Jeter’s a very charming guy, welcoming. I go up [and say], ‘Mr. Jeter, I’m Julian Edelman. I’m playing in the Super Bowl.’ I felt weird introducing myself, but I wanted to meet him.”

Jordan, on the other hand, was more “standoffish” while he continued talking to Jeter. Once that conversation wrapped up, however, Jordan had an important message for it.

“I started talking with Jeter and everything’s good,” Edelman said, “and as soon as the conversation’s about to end like five minutes in [and] I’m about to leave, Jordan comes up to me and he goes, ‘Hey kid, I got a bunch of money on you. Don’t fuck it up.’ And that’s the only thing he said to me.”

“I go, ‘Yes sir, Mr. Jordan.’ I didn’t know what to say. It was crazy.”
