Ekeler recently asked the Chargers to trade him.
"I think it's really important to put it out there that it's not like, 'Oh, I hate the Chargers and I need to get out of this organization, and I need to leave,'" he said during a recent appearance on "Green Light with Chris Long" podcast, via NFL Media. "That couldn't be further from the truth. I would like to stay if it was under the right circumstances.
"Obviously, I have one more year on my contract there, so I'm contractually obligated to play for them for this upcoming year. So, we're in a situation where it's like, look, we have no guarantees or anything like that this year, so kind of in a spot where I've been outplaying my contract, and we might have an opportunity to go seek out other options that can bring me up."
Albert Breer of SI.com writes that the Vikings have been communicative with their star tailback, Dalvin Cook —and receptive to the idea of bringing him back—but it just won’t happen at the rate of $11 million he’s due this fall.
The Titans, meanwhile, have received the calls of interest regarding Derrick Henry. He would pay out $400 for every $100 bet if traded first during this year's Draft. Tennessee does expect his to play out the final year of his contract this year.
There has been plenty of trade talk involving the Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in recent months. He'd pay out $700 on a $100 bet if traded first.
To date, the only team who has even made mention of potentially pursuing Lamar Jackson is the Indianapolis Colts.
