There is terrific value in Union Rags odds to win the 2012 Belmont Stakes as they have gone from 5/1 to 6/1 overnight at WagerWeb.com and, with rain in the forecast, Union Rags is among the most proven mud horses in the field.  These odds could now change as Gamblng911.com has just gotten word that I’ll Have Another is scratched from this Saturday’s Belmont Stakes due to injury.

Union Rags was widely considered to be the expected spoiler for I’ll Have Another’s shot at a Triple Crown victory.

“I wouldn’t be going in there if I didn’t think I could beat him,” Union Rags trainer Michael Matz said, referencing Union Rags ability to beat I’ll Have Another. “The Derby was disappointing because everything went as planned going into the race. There was no indication that he wouldn’t run well. How many times do you have one of the favorites in the Kentucky Derby? Everything went fine until the last two minutes.”

Union Rags will be fresh having skipped the Preakness Stakes.

Of the last 10 Belmont winners, only Afleet Alex (2005) ran in the Preakness.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
