Imagine that: The Tennessee Titans are now leading the AFC South, a division that has long been dominated by the Indianapolis Colts followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans are unfamiliar territory in this division - up two wins in Week 3.
The Titans odds to win the AFC South were set at +1300 before the start of the season for a potential $1300 payout on every $100 bet at SBG Global. The long odds were a result of both the Colts and Jaguars being favorites to win, not just the division, but the 2009 Super Bowl.
The Jaguars avoided a 0-3 start by just barely beating the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday by a score of 23-21.
Josh Scobee, who produced Jacksonville's only other win in Indianapolis with a 53-yard field goal in 2004, did it again Sunday by making a 51-yarder with 4 seconds left to beat the dreaded Colts 23-21. And this time, he took the ball.
"My holder went to give me a high-five and I took off running," said Scobee, who left the ball from his other winning kick in the Indianapolis locker room and never got it back. "I tried to get the ball from the ball boy and he didn't recognize me. He wouldn't let go of it, so I had to rip it away from him."
Meanwhile, the Colts are starting the season 1-2 for the first time in 10 years. That was Peyton Mannings rookie season.
Then there is the Tennessee Titans, who despite some off the field personal issues surrounding injured quarterback, Vince Young, have managed an impressive 3-0 start.
LenDale White ran for two touchdowns, Kerry Collins threw for another and Tennessee rolled over Houston 31-12 Sunday to improve to 3-0 for only the third time in franchise history.
"It's a long way to go, but 3-0 is a good start," Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse said after getting his first full sack this season. "There's still a lot of room for improvement."
The Titans last won their first three games in 1999 -- their first season in their current stadium -- and in 1991 while still in Houston and playing as the Oilers. With this victory, they now have beaten the team that replaced them in Houston seven straight times and in 11 of 13 games.
Tennessee has already beaten Jacksonville and Cincinnati on the road. They will face another test next week hosting the Minnesota Vikings, who managed to take care of the Carolina Panthers Sunday.
