It's never too early to start thinking of 2009 Super Bowl odds for teams that were never even mentioned among those likely to play in the big game....case in point: The Carolina Panthers, who managed to dismantle one of the top favorites to win the 2009 Super Bowl - the San Diego Chargers. And the Panthers beat them on the road no less.

betED.com had the Carolina Panthers with +6000 odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl early on. That's a $6000 payout for every $100 bet. Following last year's improbable win by the huge underdog New York Giants, betting on teams like the Panthers to win the Super Bowl is likely to sky rocket, especially after their big win against San Diego.

The Panthers would pay out $1800 for every $100 bet if they were to win the 2009 NFC Championship. A division win would pay 2 to 1 odds or $200 for every $100 bet.

The Panthers, unfortunately, have been unpredictable in recent seasons. But Carolina was definitely on the odds makers radar. betED.com have made the Panthers a -170 favorite to win 8 games or more.

Jake Delhomme came back from an elbow injury with the kind of impact the San Diego Chargers won't soon forget, throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Rosario as time expired to lift the underdog Carolina Panthers to a shocking 26-24 win Sunday.

When he saw the ball in Rosario's hands, Delhomme felt as if he were replicating one of the most famous celebration scenes in sports history.

"I didn't know what to do. I think I ran around like Jim Valvano," he said, referring to the late North Carolina State basketball coach's reaction to the Wolfpack's upset of Houston in the 1983 national championship game.

"I started to run to go jump on him, and I'm just kind of in awe," Delhomme said. "Then you hear the ref blowing the whistle, so I'm like, 'Oh, did something happen?' But it was for the PAT. ... It was just elation."

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons both won their respective games to share the 1-0 lead with Carolina in the NFC South after Week 1 of the 2008 regular season.

BetED.com would be updating their 2009 Super Bowl odds no later than Tuesday.
