The odds of former Gov. Tom Ridge being selected as John McCain's running mate have been cut in half -- from 16-1 to 8-1, by Ladbrokes -- in the past month as speculation grows that the former Homeland Security secretary is on McCain's short list.
The move follows a week in which Ridge dominated the veep talk in large part because the two close friends campaigned together in Pennsylvania. McCain added to the speculation Wednesday when he told the Weekly Standard that he wouldn't rule out a pro-choice Republican as his veep.
Some put Ridge's chances of getting picked higher. Chris Cillizza's -- of The Fix -- has Ridge number two on his list of potential choices. His favorite to get the nod: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
