The online poker world is welcoming it's highest profile sports celebrity sponsor to its community. It was just announced that San Antonio Spurs point guard, Tony Parker, a two-time NBA champion has signed a deal with BetClic, a new, rising online poker site based in France. Parker, who was born in Belgium, but raised in France before joining the NBA, is best known outside the sports world as the man married to Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria. His high profile relationship has enabled him to be featured in tabloids on a weekly basis and he is highly recognizable to men and women alike.

Over the past few years, Parker and Longoria have been photographed partaking in several poker events such as the World Series of Poker and other charity poker events.

Of the deal, Parker said through a statement,

"A great adventure begins. BetClic is a leading company with big ambitions and I am very happy to contribute to its development in the sport during the coming years."

In its brief 5 year history, BetClic has gained a rather large customer base and is quite popular among European players. Prior to signing Parker, BetClic's biggest signing had been recruiting former PokerStars pro, Isabelle Mercier.

BetClic's founder, Nicolas Beraud is understandably excited about the signing, stating

"We are delighted to welcome Tony Parker in the team BetClic. He is a great ambassador for the brand. Tony represents the strong values of excellence and ethics in sports that we share. This new partnership reflects our commitment to continue our development in the sport by adding great champions to our team."

Though PokerStars features former tennis pro Boris Becker as a sponsored pro, Parker is the first current athlete to align himself with any poker site. It should be interesting to see if other poker sites will follow suit.
