With both Northern Iowa and St. Mary's knocking off their much higher seeded opponents, many gamblers were wondering what the payouts would be if either team were to somehow win the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

The answer to that question:  We are talking about over $30,000 paid out for every $100 bet should St. Mary's pull off the win and $25,000 if Northern Iowa happens to do so.  Sportsbetting.com had listed the odds coming into the tournament (see website here).

Northern Iowa will be playing in the Sweet 16 having knocked off the top seed Kansas. The biggest upset in a tournament full of them was done. Northern Iowa had taken down mighty Kansas with a last second three-point shot from Ali Farokhmanesh.

"If anybody's going to shoot that shot, I want it to be Ali," Northern Iowa's Jake Koch said.

"This team has done such a great job of turning the page to what's next, and this would be the biggest challenge of the year," Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson said. "A lot of positive things have happened because of the way these guys played."

Then there was St. Mary's upset of number two-seeded Villanova by a score of 75-68.

Villanova proved to be successful when it was able to run the floor (8 for 9 field goals in transition), but when the game slowed down Saint Mary's dominated by controlling the paint.

Saint Mary's is 2-0 in the NCAA tournament. Prior to this season, the Gaels hadn't won a tournament game since 1959.

Saint Mary's is the first team from the West Coast Conference besides Gonzaga to reach the Sweet Sixteen since Loyola Marymount in 1990

Omar Samhan scored 32 points, going 13 for 16 from the field for the Gaels.
