Houston Area Bookies, Agents Beware as NBA and MLB Teams Continue to Dominate

As if the Astros winning the 2017 World Series were not enough to give Houston area bookies fits, their home town Rockets now own the best record in the NBA.

The Astros are picking up where they last left off, winning six and losing two to kick off the 2018 MLB season.

The Rockets are 64-15 Straight Up this season but are a somewhat lackluster 41-37 Against The Spread.  This has helped provide some needed relief to area bookies.  Currently the Rockets are covering at a 50% clip.  We can expect them to see the brunt of public wagering and, unless they absolutely dominate teams, one can anticipate more underdog covers.  Their last ATS wins were by nine or more points.

When reviewing the NBA Betting Power Ratings, I've come up with lines for the next three games featuring Houston.

vs Oklahoma -7.5

@ LA (Lakers) -7.5

@ Sacramento -12

Not taking into consideration other factors, watch for a line that is Houston -11 or -11.5 versus Sacramento, which would indicate only a slight underlay and stronger likelihood of a Rockets cover.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, a line of -12.5 or greater for Houston in Sacramento you will want to hone in on the Kings to potentially cover.  Just be aware there could be some slight adjustments in the ratings calculation of a half point in either direction once this game is set to tip off four days from now.

We do have to consider that Houston has already clinched home court advantage in the Playoffs.

Tevin Williams of FanSided writes that, when healthy, the Rockets are "unbeatable".

The Rockets have a 34-6 record at home and a 30-9 record on the road, both of which lead the NBA. They’ve been able to accomplish this impressive feat despite a host of injuries to many of their best players.

Houston’s depth allows them to truly adopt a “next man up” mindset whenever a player is injured. Having both (Chris) Paul and (James) Harden affords the Rockets with the luxury of having one Hall-of-Fame point guard on the floor at all times. Not to mention that they can both carry the entire offensive load when the other is injured.

With a healthier team
