Jordan Spieth's odds to win the Masters 2018 were sitting at 10/1 for a payout potential of $1000 on every $100 bet.
Spieth is an American professional golfer on the PGA Tour and former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking. He is a three-time major winner and the 2015 FedEx Cup champion.
While technically the favorite to win this year's Masters, a handful of other contenders, including Tiger Woods, were sitting at or one to two points below Spieth's odds (10/1 to 12/1).
The 2018 Masters is expected to be the most wagered on and, quite possibly, the most heavily bet golf tournament ever according to some bookmakers, especially those based out of North America.
Spieth has even compared playing in the Masters as an American as playing in the Super Bowl.
“This is essentially our Super Bowl, and after 2014 [when he was runner-up on his Masters debut] I kind of saw that and had built that desire to win it then.”
He added: “I think this course brings out the feel aspect of my game, which is the better side of me on the golf course,” Spieth said. “It’s not a technical driving range golf course, you have a lot of uneven lies and very slopey greens, and so you have to play a lot off of feel and what that lie gives you.
“I think that’s helped me settle in and not overthink things out here and get into a nice groove, and it’s led to some success at this event. So it is my favourite tournament in the world. I’ve certainly made that pretty clear going back the last five years.”
