Quicken Loans National

The Quicken Loans National takes place at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland from June 23rd through June 26th, 2016. The course will host the event again in 2018 and 2020 while the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland will get the tournament in 2017. The event used to be known as the AT&T National but Quicken Loans took over as the title sponsor beginning in 2014. The tournament is hosted by Tiger Woods and has been held in the Washington, D.C. area since 2007. The tournament benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation and was first held in 2007. The event has “invitational” status event since the beginning which means the field is slightly smaller than a normal tournament. Because it has invitational status the event will have a field of 120 players instead of the normal 156 players. Only four other PGA events have the invitational status. The defending champion is Troy Merritt.

Tournament Notes

This event had been sponsored by AT&T since its inception but in 2014 Quicken Loans reached a multi-year agreement to sponsor the event. The event is one of the bigger events in the Washington D.C. area, welcoming more than 150,000 fans each year. The event takes place right in the middle between the U.S. Open and the British Open so it normally attracts a very strong field as players have no reason to skip the event. The television coverage of this event is handled by Golf Channel and CBS.
