With the NFL Conference championship games this weekend, Gambling911.com is taking a look at what the line will be on a Super Bowl game that features the Eagles vs. Steelers. This line should only be used as a reference to try and determine if the oddsmakers have created an underlay or overlay.
It should be noted that the consensus among oddsmakers both in Vegas and offshore is that this will be a Pennsylvania Super Bowl. The Steelers were listed with +140 odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl at BetUS.com for a payout potential of $140 on every $100 bet. The Eagles had odds of +200 with a payout potential of $200 for every $100 bet. Arizona pays $550 for every $100 bet at BetUS.com while Baltimore would pay $400.
Gambling911.com has come up with an early Eagles vs. Steelers Super Bowl line of Steelers -1 ½ to -2. Presently, Philadelphia has become a huge public favorite and the most bet on team heading into the Conference Championships. The Steelers, overall, have the most loyal fan base in the league, however. We do not anticipate this line being any higher than Pittsburgh -2 ½, making for what should be a very evenly matched Super Bowl (at least perception-wise).
An all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl would lead to a most unusual dilemma. Typically, Super Bowl team governors place friendly bets amongst themselves. Assuming such a scenario where the Eagles play the Steelers, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell would have to place a bet with himself.
Two teams from the same state have not played since Super Bowl XXIX between the 49ers and Chargers in January 1995.
