Sunday evening in Sin City finds the 4-4 New York Jets visiting the 4-5 Las Vegas Raiders, with both teams theoretically alive to get to the postseason.
The Jets have their second consecutive night affair, having not offered much in a 27-6 home loss to Los Angeles Chargers this past Monday. New York was kept out of the end zone, fumbled three times and surrendered eight sacks.
Las Vegas hosts its second Meadowlands dwellers in succession, having slapped the New York Giants, 30-6, last Sunday. It was Antonio Pierce’s coaching debut after Josh McDaniels was given the gate.
Game time at Allegiant Stadium is 8:15-8:20 ET.
It’s a pick ‘em game (total of 36½), according to NFL odds.
Moneyline is Raiders -115, Jets -105.
These old AFL foes have their 49th meeting (including postseason), Raiders leading 26-20-2.

Jets Grounded Offensively
The New York Jets are a .500 team despite ranking 30th in the league in scoring (16½ points per game). Things haven’t (obviously) gone as planned offensively once quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down minutes into the season.
Only their co-tenant New York Giants average fewer yards than the 272.9 of Gang Green.
Quarterback Zach Wilson (1,600 passing yards, five touchdowns, five interceptions) has struggled mightily, 31 sacks not helping.
Breece Hall (493 rushing yards, two touchdowns) is a bright spot in the backfield, while Garrett Wilson (46 receptions, 549 yards, two touchdowns) is quarterback Wilson’s target of choice.
New York has been able to stay afloat this season on the strength of its defense, having surrendered just 19½ points/game (eighth [tied] in NFL) despite being in the field an inordinate amount of time. It has allowed just 312 yards/game (ninth in league).
The Jets have sacked opposition quarterbacks 32 times this season, always a threat to blitz.
Sweep of Jersey?
The Las Vegas Raiders’ 30-6 rout of the New York Giants was a season-high in points. Whether that was the weak opponent, the coaching change or other factors remains to be seen. It is a tougher defense awaiting the Silver and Black this time around. Vegas averages just 17.3 points/game (27th in league).
Quarterback Aidan O’Connell replaced Jimmy Garoppolo when Antonio Pierce replaced Josh McDanlels. O’Connell didn’t do anything wrong (16-of-25, 209 passing yards, no touchdowns or interceptions) against the Giants, many low-risk passes.
Running back Josh Jacobs was the workhorse last week, 26 rushes, 98 yards, two touchdowns as he began to resemble his old self. Meanwhile, wideout Davante Adams (51 receptions, 573 yards, two touchdowns) has just one double-digit reception game to date.
Raiders to Roll
When it comes to probability of making the postseason, both teams are in negative territory, as per NFL playoff odds.
Momentum is a huge factor in any sport, especially in the National Football League. Las Vegas responded to the coaching change, and may be headed in the right direction in the AFC West.
Meanwhile, New York continues to struggle offensively, probably not doing much against the Raiders. The Jets’ vaunted defense has to keep a resurgent Josh Jacobs in check.
Vegas will get back to break-even with a comfortable win Sunday evening. Go under, too.
