Dan Quinn defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys

Dean Jones of Cat Crave this week suggested three candidates for the open Carolina Panthers head coaching job, each of whom have especially long payout odds.

Dan Quinn (20-1 Odds)

Jones discusses the recent promotion of Dan Morgan to president of football operations/general manager.

His relationship with Dan Quinn goes back to their time with the Seattle Seahawks.

"A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. But their previous connection certainly provides the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator with a better opportunity to attain another head coaching opportunity."

Aside from the epic collapse versus Green Bay in the playoffs, Quinn's defense in Dallas this season proved to be especially successful.

The Panthers are indeed bringing him back in for a second interview.

Ejiro Evero (10-1 Odds)

A Ejiro Evero hiring would represent a promotion from within, which seems odd considering how much of a disaster the Panthers were this season.

But Evero isn't necessarily being faulted for the poor hand he was dealt.

"Evero did a marvelous job in difficult circumstances last season. The defensive coordinator maintained the unit's competitiveness despite dealing with countless injuries to key personnel. There were some problems - especially against the run - but the progressive figure deserves praise for the way he kept everyone focused while all around them crumbled."

Dave Canales (18-1 Odds)

Dave Canales and Dan Morgan built a close bond working together on the Seattle Seahawks, Jones writes.

"Canales is from the Pete Carroll coaching tree. The recently fired head coach speaks very highly of his credentials as an offensive guru and evolving leader. He's done exceptional work as Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator, molding a scheme around quarterback Baker Mayfield's strengths and galvanizing the player's career when all hope seemed lost.

"One can also credit a lot of Geno Smith's resurgence to Canales' coaching methods. He's only got one year of offensive play-calling experience, so whether this is too soon is a topic for debate."
