One or more sportsbook operators may end up with heart attacks San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini continues performing the way he has as his Hart Trophy odds opened at 250-1. He's on a clear path to win it with the payout being $25,000 for every $100 bet should that occur.
Those were obviously the season opening odds and are no longer available. You can still find his player prop bets daily on the site.
Last week, the San Jose rookie sat third in the NHL with 53 points, trailing only Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, who are tied at 58.
According to Jason Gregor, Host of Sports 1440, if the Sharks make the playoffs, Celebrini should win the Hart Trophy.
Celebrini isn't just putting up points. He's doing it while carrying an enormous workload for a team that wasn't expected to compete. He's playing 20 and a half minutes a night and shooting the puck at an elite rate, recording one less shot than McDavid through the same number of games.
Gregor highlighted a goal Celebrini scored off a faceoff that perfectly captured his poise and hockey IQ. Gregor continued, "Just controls it right off the draw. Then he doesn't rush. Takes his time in the corner. Waiting, waiting. Then a pass across, rebound, scores." That kind of composure from a teenager is what separates special players from great ones.
Celebrini this week extended his point streak to an NHL career-high eight games with a goal and two assists for the San Jose Sharks in a 5-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Monday.
Celebrini has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) during his streak, and 60 points (21 goals, 39 assists) through 39 games this season.
"It doesn't even surprise me anymore," San Jose forward Zack Ostapchuk said of Celebrini. "Every game it's something new with that guy."
Gambling911.com's internal review of NHL-related search impressions shows massive interest in recent weeks, and Celebrini's contribution to these numbers cannot be underestimated.
