With the new Major League Baseball season starting next week, the world’s second largest daily fantasy sports provider, DraftKings, has announced a deal to become MLB’s official DFS sponsor.

The joint release from MLB and DraftKings says the deal marks the “most comprehensive league partnership in daily fantasy sports history.”  Major League Baseball already purchased a small stake in DraftKings back in 2013.

The agreement gives permission to DraftKings to offer co-branded MLB daily fantasy games while extending its current marketing contract with MLB clubs.

“The daily fantasy industry as whole is encouraged and enthused by the league partnerships with DraftKings and FanDuel,” said a representative of Daily Fantasy Cafe, a daily fantasy community.  “These partnerships increase awareness and legitimize the industry even further.”

The daily fantasy sports sector is showing explosive growth over the past year with the first ever Daily Fantasy Sports Expo hosting dozens of operators, software companies and investment firms August 6 and 7 in Miami Beach.
