You will be able to bet on this year's FIFA World Cup from New York State using one of a few dozen internationally-licensed online betting sites.  The best way to place bets online from New York will be with bitcoin using a cryptocurrency wallet that can be linked to one's banking account.  The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in May that individual states can offer legalized sports betting.

WILL NEW YORK WELCOME SPORTS BETTING?

The Empire State will embrace sports betting but has put it on the back burner for the moment, so don't expect to start placing bets at the start of the new Football season.

A 2013 law created the framework for offering sports betting in the state but not everyone is on board with the structure as it stands now.

That law does not address sports betting at Indian nation casinos nor does it advise on how to hand out licenses.

More importantly, the state legislature session ends on June 20. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has suggested there may not be time to do it this year.

Needless-to-say, Florida gamblers will need to rely on international websites to place all their World Cup bets

HOW TO USE BITCOIN AND OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCIES FOR BETTING THE FIFA WORLD CUP

The online betting site will simply have you send them the special address/token obtained from the Bitcoin wallet or exchange.

You would select either SEND (to deposit funds) or RECEIVE (to withdraw funds).

Some exchanges allow customers to link directly with their bank accounts or PayPal.  The Bitcoin can be converted into the currency of your choice then transferred into your account in as little as 24 hours.

You will want to verify all your information (including personal identification) with the exchange prior to sending and receiving funds.  Typically they will suggest setting up an authenticator on your mobile device for added security.
