Sportsbook.com has released its 2010 Oscars odds and Avatar has now gone from long +300 odds to the new favorite at -300. One must bet $30 to win $10 (the $30 is returned along with the $10 win should Avatar be awarded "Best Picture").
"Avatar is being billed as the epic film or our lifetime much like Gone With The Wind," Gambling911.com Senior Editor Payton O'Brien said. "There is nobody that I know who did not leave this film in awe. It's more than just a pretty science fiction flick. The film is certainly worthy of an Oscar."
Initially Up In The Air and The Hurt Locker were co-favorites.
Up In The Air now has odds of +800 with the payout potential being $80 on every $10 bet.
The Hurt Closet still had pretty short odds at +140.
Ten films have been nominated for "Best Picture". It is a return to the way the Oscars were awarded in the movies' early decades when as many as 12 films were considered in the field of finalists, then-academy President Sid Ganis said announcing the change in June.
