It's official: Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins is out for Game 7 of the NBA finals and that means Celtics vs. Lakers Game 7 NBA Finals odds are now at -7 favoring Los Angeles. The Lakers had opened at -6 ½ with the realization that Perkins sitting out could negatively impact this game for Boston.
Betting fans weren't sure what to expect from Perkins after he injured his knee in Game 6. There was some speculation that he might give it a go because after all, it's the last - and most important - game of the NBA betting season, but as it turns out, he will not be able to play through it.
On Wednesday, Perkins revealed to the media that he has two torn ligaments in his right knee - the medial collateral and posterior cruciate - and given the severity of the injury, he will be sidelined.
It's a big blow to the Celtics as Perkins is a solid starter for their squad. It also means that Glen Davis or Rasheed Wallace will have to step into the starting lineup and therefore, shorten some of the Celtics front line depth.
The numbers have adjusted in the sportsbook as handiccappers have already hopped on the Lakers. They opened as a -310 favorite on the money line and it has climbed to -335.
The last thing the Celtics were hoping to hear after enduring a 22-point blowout loss was the fact that they'd have to play Game 7 without one of their starters. Now they'll have to pick up the slack even more so.
